In this 4-hour, hands-on class, you'll be introduced to the art of forming metal using heat, hammer, hand, and anvil. Guided by award-winning Portland-based artist Mike Suri, you'll learn to work with propane forges, gaining a deep understanding of the dual nature of metal—its capacity to be both hard and soft.
In this course, you'll choose from a variety of projects and leave with a finished piece you’ve created yourself. The class costs $344, including all materials. Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your skills, this course offers a unique opportunity to learn from a master craftsman and experience the fascinating world of blacksmithing.
Meet Your Instructor: Mike Suri
An award winning Portland based Artist. He has spent his career working in fabrication, experimental sculpture, & blacksmithing. Opening his own company, Suri Iron, he has offered custom pieces for private collections as well creating numerous large public works projects all over the region. Mike likes to push the boundary with his creations utilizing a vast array of techniques and equipment, both non-traditional and established.
Mike has also been a long time educator in the field of Metal Arts. He focuses on creating a inviting and nurturing environment for students to learn. He has a passion for sharing the creative side of metal work with the community. He looks forward to being a mentor to his students and helping like minded individuals explore the creative side to Blacksmithing.
